The state unit of Congress today condemned the police action over the daily wage workers in Srinagar who were protesting for their demands there.

"Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee strongly condemns the police action over the daily wager workers at Srinagar who were protesting for their genuine demands in a peaceful manner," President JKPCC Ghulam Ahmed Mir said in a statement issued here.

Mir said that the government resorting to "cane-charging" on the protesting daily wage workers was an uncalled for move.

"They were protesting for release of wages and regularisation of their services. This kind of action of the government is highly objectionable, as the employees were protesting for their genuine demands, as they are not getting their wages for months together," he said.

He said that the previous government had already undertaken exercise for regularisation of workers under various categories and urged upon the government to consider their "genuine demands on priority", instead of giving them "inhuman treatment".
