The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Congress has criticised the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for the ban on cow slaughter and dared the Narendra Modi government to implement the ban order in the state.

Claiming that some BJP leaders, including Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju had equated the cow with the Mithun, which amounted to insulting the age-old culture, rituals and traditions of the tribal people in the state, APCC president Takam Sanjoy in a press statement today said, "these persons should publicly explain as to how Mithun could be equated with a cow."

He said the tribal community in the state, mostly meat eaters, are supplied (meat) by mostly outside non-tribal traders.

The meat trade sustaining livelihood to large section of people across this tribal state would be hit hard with far reaching consequences.

The APCC president claimed "The BJP-led NDA Government's ban on cow slaughter has been opposed tooth and nail by the masses, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal governments which reflected the anti-people action of the Centre that directly violates the human rights and displaces the man-animal equation.
