Blaming the former organisation for its failure to initiate proper movement against the 'misrule of the ruling CPI(M)', a faction of opposition Congress has launched a new party, Tripura Pragatishil Gramin Congress (TPGC).
Former general secretary of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Subal Bhowmick, who resigned from his post on April 2, today announced the formation of the new party.
The new party, he said, would launch a stringent movement against the "misrule" of the Left Front Government with "like-minded forces" like Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Bhowmick, a former MLA who lost the February 14 elections from Melaghar constituency, alleged that the leadership of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in league with the Congress High Command had helped the CPI-M "clandestinely" to return to power.
"The only work of the Congress High Command is to change the TPCC President before the elections to lead the party for a debacle", he alleged.
In the February 14 Assembly elections, Congress won 10 seats in the 60-member House, while the CPI(M)-led Left Front won 50 seats.
