Contest has become inevitable for the Nandigama (SC reserved) assembly seat in the by-poll slated for September 13 as the Congress party fielded its candidate despite the ruling Telugu Desam Party's effort to make the election unanimous.

The bye-election was necessitated after the seat fell vacant following the demise of TDP MLA Tangirala Prabhakar.

He died of heart-attack soon after being elected to the first Assembly of new Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP has fielded Prabhakar's daughter Soumya, a software engineer and requested other parties not to field candidates so as to make the election unanimous, party sources said.

While the YSR Congress agreed not to jump into the fray, Congress chose to field B Babu Rao, a local Dalit leader against the TDP nominee.

Babu Rao filed his nomination today along with four other candidates who filed nomination as independents.

Nominations will be scrutinised tomorrow and the last date for withdrawal is August 30.
