Congress' Kisan and Khet Majdoor Cell here today alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "anti-Punjab" and "anti-farmers".

"Modi cancelled his proposed visit for 350th celebrations of Anandpur Sahib on June 19, failed to raise the issues of implementation of Swaminathan report, withdrew the SLP filed by the Gujarat government against Sikh farmers settled there," said Inder Jit Singh Zira, the cell's Punjab unit chairman.

Besides, he took no steps to waive off the debt of farmers and to compensate them for their loss in produce, Zira alleged.

"Modi did not want to agree to any one of these, that's why he cancelled his trip to Punjab," he said.

He demanded that a farmer who owns less than 5 acres of land should be brought under MNREGA, 90 per cent subsidy on the seeds, completely waive off the farmer debt in Punjab and not to dismantle FCI and to fix MSP of the crop immediately.

"These all are the basic demands of the farmers of Punjab, lack of which are increasing the number of farmers' suicides," he said.
