: Activists of Tamil Nadu Congress Tozhilalar Union, a labour wing of Congress, today distributed handbills in major petrol bunks in the city, giving details of "real economics of crude oil and petrol prices' in India, which they said was very high.

Despite crude oil prices nose diving to a low, the NDA government was increasing the excise duty without passing on the benefit to the consumers. It has resulted in Rs 1.48 lakh crore revenue to the exchequer, TCTU State president N Nanjappan said.

He recalled that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had granted a subsidy of Rs 2.34 lakh crore to the oil sector, despite crude oil prices touching its peak, he said.
