Senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday sought AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to be made the party president in the wake of her brother Rahul Gandhi stepping down from the post.
"Priyanka lao, Congress bachao (Bring Priyanka, save Congress)," Rao, a former president of Congress in undivided Andhra Pradesh, said.
Only Priyanka Gandhi can rejuvenate the party across the country, he said.
Her recent intervention in Uttar Pradesh over the Sonbhadra clash has boosted the morale of partymen, Rao said.
Rahul Gandhi had announced that he would like step down from the post of Congress president in the wake of the party's massive loss in the Lok Sabha polls.
