Congress members, who also found support among the opposition Left, wanted that an amendment be inserted into the resolution moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee.
Under Rule 169 of functioning of the assembly, Chatterjee sought passage of an all-party resolution asking the Centre to grant a three-year moratorium on payments of interest, given the dire financial condition of the state.
In addition, Chatterjee also included two other demands like renewal of Backward Region Grant of Rs 8750 crore as in 2011-12 and release of coal cess amounting to Rs 5880 crore from April 1991 to March 2012, which would rise to Rs 11,000 crore taking into account an interest rate of 10 per cent.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Md Sorab, however, objected saying that the issue was not discussed at the business advisory committee of the assembly.
He also said that the tenor of the resolution sought to cast an aspersion on the Centre on an issue which was still under discussion between the two parties for which Sorab wanted to move an amendment and sought division when it was put for voting. (MORE)
