Ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections on February seven, the Congress today lifted the suspension against party MLA Mamata Madhi to make sure that she voted for party candidate Ranjib Biswal.

The opposition party's decision to lift the suspension on Madhi was announced by Pradesh Congress Disciplinary Committee chairman Harihar Karan.

Madhi was suspended for defying the party whip. She had remained absent during voting on a no trust motion moved by the Congress in the Assembly against Speaker Pradip Amat in April 2013.

Explaining the party's decision, Harihar Karan said Madhi's absence during the voting on the no-trust motion was unintentional and she had failed to reach the House due to communication problems.

"She has been actively participating in the programmes of the party and the party felt that there is no reason to keep her under suspension any further," Karan said.
