Senior Congress MLA P T Thomas Wednesday accused the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government of tapping phones of political leaders and mediapersons in Kerala.

The Thrikkakkara MLA alleged a special cell has been set up in the police for tapping the phones of the political opponents of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his own colleagues in the CPI(M).

The government is tapping the phone calls of political leaders and mediapersons. Vijayan has set up a special cell in Poloce for tapping the phones, Thomas told a press conference here.

He demanded a thorough probe into the alleged phone tapping.

There was no immediate reaction from the government on the MLAs allegations.

The Congress leader alleged the Chief Minister was running away from the state assembly and "not giving reply to the issues raised by the opposition."

He also claimed 44 state government officials had been suspended for criticising the functioning of the government and the Chief Minister in the social media.

Condemning the increasing incidents of custodial torture and deaths in Kerala under the LDF rule, Thomas said the compensation to the victims family should be borne by the police officials responsible for the crime.
