Congress MP from Dahod, Prabha Taviyad and four party MLAs Vaju Panda, Bacchu Kishori, Chandrika Bariya, Dita Macchar were detained when they were trying to demonstrate near the venue, a Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee member said.

Police also detained over 200 members of NGO 'Akhil Gujarat Netraheen Jagrut Sangh' who also were trying to demonstrate to highlight the problems faced by the differently-abled people in the state.

They were taken away in a bus to different locations and were manhandled by the police, a Congress member alleged.

"On such a historic day, the differently-abled people who have been struggling since last three years to seek a solution to their problems were not even given a chance to speak," he alleged.

The state-level function to celebrate the 52nd foundation day of Gujarat was held in the tribal district of Dahod today, where Chief Minister Narendra Modi was to lay the foundation of several development works.
