Congress not sincere on Telangana: BJP

Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Congress-led UPA government of doing politics on the Telangana issue to suit its interest

Attacking Congress for "miserably" failing to handle Telangana issue, BJP today questioned its sincerity, asking why it has not expelled leaders opposed to the creation of the new state in violation of the party line.

"Congress is insincere over the creation of Telangana and even in addressing the concerns of Seemandhra. They are insincere to both. If the party would have been sincere, those who violated the CWC resolution would have been expelled," BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said today.

To establish its sincerity on the issue, he said, the Congress should act against those going against party resolution.

"But they have not done anything. Their Chief Minister sits on dharna. Their own MPs are disrupting Parliament, their own MPs are moving no confidence motion. Why they were not expelled from the party. It's an action against party line," Javadekar said.

Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Congress-led UPA government of doing politics on the Telangana issue to suit its interest.

"This government is not bothered about Andhra Pradesh or Telangana. They are only interested in doing politics over the issue," Prasad told reporters outside Parliament.

He said this when asked for his reaction about reports that the government has proposed a hefty financial package for the Seemandhra region and declaring Hyderabad as union territory to end the Telangana crisis.

Prasad said during the formation of Jharkhand, BJP led government at the Centre amicably settled the issue even as RJD chief Lalu Prasad had threatened against dividing Bihar.
