Congress today protested against the hike in toll rates for Yamuna Expressway and threatened to launch an agitation if the hike is not rolled back within a week.

"Jaypee Infratech in connivance with Yamuna expressway authority has hiked toll rates for the Expressway. This hike announcement is purely dictatorial as people's representatives have not been consulted or informed before announcing this hike," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Dhirendra Singh said.

"Most fertile and important land on both the sides of Yamuna Expressway has been allotted to JP Infra in the name of planned development but in fact so-called development is a major earning means of money for JP's other businesses," said Singh.

"This hike has been announced at a time when incidents of accident have gone up and below standard security and safety measures were completely exposed," he said.

"Rather than addressing issues of people, announcing hike shows merciless and callous attitude of powerful builder towards hapless people. But we are going to oppose this loot and reply suitably. Agitataion will be launched if hike not rolled back in a week," Singh said.
