"The yatra received tremendous response at Bhilad Chokdi from where it entered Gujarat from Maharashtra and passed through Navsari, Surat, Ankleshwar, Bharuch and other places before reaching Vadodara this evening," All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and yatra in-charge Sudhakar Reddy told PTI.

Addressing people after the yatra's arrival in the city, Reddy said the purpose behind the yatra was to create awareness against terrorism, Naxalism and communal hatred, as well as spreading the message of a united India.

"The Congress party launched this yatra from Tamil Nadu on August 9, coinciding with the Quit India Movement in 1942 and it has been propagating ideals of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi," he said.

After visiting Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat, the yatra will enter Udaipur in Rajasthan on August 17, before entering Haryana and concluding its journey in Delhi on August 20, the birthday of Rajiv Gandhi.

It will conclude at Veer Bhoomi, the samadhi of Rajiv Gandhi in New Delhi on August 20, to coincide with his 68th birth anniversary, in the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, he said.
