Slamming Congress at the Centre, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today alleged that it "worked for safeguarding the interests of the rich" even though the party claimed "to be votary of the common man and the poor".

"All the policies of Congress are aimed at benefiting the affluent class, whether directly or indirectly, at the cost of common man. Congress has made it difficult for the common man to survive," Badal said, addressing a gathering during 'Sangat Darshan' at Talwandi Sabo here.

He held the party responsible for unemployment, corruption, illiteracy or poverty in the country, and alleged that the UPA government was stalling projects for Punjab and exhorted the people to bring BJP-led NDA to power in the Lok Sabha polls.

Bathinda SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur, who accompanied the Chief Minister, also slammed the Congress in her speech.
