Congress seeks CBI probe into murder of pawn broker

Opposition Congress has called upon the Puducherry government to hand over to CBI, the investigation into the murder of a 50-year-old pawn broker in April, this year as investigation by the local police is sluggish and slow.

Talking to newsmen here today, leader of the opposition in the assembly V Vaithilingam, said the crime took place in the premises of the shop owner in broad daylight on April 5 in the vicinity of the municipal bus terminal and the culprits decamped with the jewels and silver articles worth several lakhs of rupees.

The Chief Minister, N Rangasamy and the police officials constantly replying that "culprits would be brought to book soon", whenever approached by the relatives of the victim seeking speedy investigation into the case. Nothing had happened even after lapse of more than four months since the crime occurred, he said.
 

Vaithilingam also criticised the Puducherry government for spending huge amount on procurement of rice for the free rice scheme and alleged that the norms governing the tender system to purchase the rice were flouted.
