Opposition Congress today said the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh has failed to curb human trafficking in the state, where over 17,000 girls and women have gone missing.

Those running human trafficking rackets enjoy political protection and this has led to 17,365 girls and women missing from the state between 2008 and 2011, said Chhattisgarh Congress General Secretary Nitin Trivedi, quoting figures from police records.

The Raman Singh administration has displayed no will to curb this menace, he charged.

The BJP Government fares poorly when it comes to checking crimes against women. According to the National Crime Record Bureau, Chhattisgarh reported over 1,000 rape cases in the last one year, Trivedi said here.

Chhattisgarh also figures among top 10 states when it comes to eve-teasing incidents, the Congress leader said.
