Congress members today staged a walk-out from West Bengal assembly when Speaker Biman Banerjee refused to admit an adjournment motion moved by CLP leader Mohd Sohrab on closed jute mills of the state.

After the question hour, Banerjee said an adjournment motion was moved by Sohrab which cannot be admitted but allowed him to read it out.

Reading the motion, Sohrab said there were more than 20 jute mills lying closed in West Bengal leaving thousands unemployed and the state government was making no effort to reopen them.

The motion also said normal business of the house be suspended to discuss the matter.

Soon after the Congress MLAs staged a walk-out.

Later, Congress member Manas Bhuniya told reporters in the assembly building that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was maintaining silence on this serious matter.

The state government, he said, should immediately convene a meeting with the jute mill owners and take steps to reopen them.
