Members of Congress today staged a walkout in the West Bengal Assembly protesting against the Speaker's decision to 'guillotine' budgetary grant demands of several departments.

Owing to paucity of time, Speaker Biman Banerjee put on vote at once the outstanding demands for grants, which is known as 'guillotine'.

The Opposition Congress members, protesting the decision and denial of a chance to discuss the demands for grants, staged a walkout shouting slogans at 4.16 pm.

The Congress members, however, came back to the House during discussion on Appropriation Bill at 4.50 pm, which was presented by Finance Minister Amit Mitra.

The Appropriation bill was passed by the House in voice vote.
