"We are extremely worried, the law and order situation in Bengal is alarming. If such a situation continues, then I shall not hesitate to write to the Union Home ministry to apprise them of the lawless situation here so that a special team can be sent by the Center to check law order," Bhattacharya, a Rajya Sabha MP, said.

Left workers were attacked and several vehicles set ablaze allegedly by the Trinamool Congress at Bamunghata in South 24 Parganas district when they were going to a rally to protest Sunday's attack on Marxist leader Abdur Rezzak Mollah.

Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee, however, claimed that several Trinamool Congress workers were attacked and the party would organize protest rallies between January 10 and 18.
