Gujarat Congress today asked Chief Minister Narendra Modi to make immediate arrangements to restore supply of gas to industrial units, which have become non-functional due to its non availability.

Around 1,000 small, medium and large scale industrial units in the industrial belt area of Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Jhagadiya and Panoli, about 100 km from here, have stopped functioning due to a cut in gas supply.

"Since Wednesday, these units have been closed after gas supply to them were terminated by the gas company," said Arjun Modhwadiya, President of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).

He also demanded that Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and the Gujarat government should allow these units to use alternate fuels.

Modhwadiya asked Modi to meet the demands of these units for the use of alternate fuel, since they might face a loss of Rs 2,000 crore if they remain shut down for a week.

Blaming Modi for the crisis, he said that hundreds of industrial workers and daily wage labourers of these affected industrial units are being terminated from their jobs.
