Opposition Congress today sought probe by a Supreme Court-appointed SIT into the Madhya Pradesh Board Examination (MPPBE) scam and termed the arrest of a former state minister in the case as a "planned surrender."

Former Minister Laxmikant Sharma was yesterday arrested by Special Task Force of MP Police for his alleged involvement in the scam, related to irregularities in admission to government colleges and job recruitment.

Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Satyadev Katare said "in my view, Sharma has not been arrested. He simply surrendered in a planned manner."

Talking to reporters, he said this has been done to ensure the "big fish" involved in the scam were not touched.

The Congress leader demanded that a SIT under the directives of the Supreme Court be set up to investigate the scam.
