Congress today said that it will support National Conference candidates in the upcoming Legislative Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement here tonight, Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said the party will support National Conference candidates in the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

"NC and Congress can win two seats if we work hard as PDP-BJP has decided to contest in alliance. If they (PDP-BJP) wouldn't have contested together we could have won more seats. But now we can win only two seats if we work hard," Saroori said.

"National Conference party should field candidates on all the 11 seats," Saroori suggested, and added, "we should not leave the field open for PDP-BJP and was not in mood to make opponent's victory easy."

Saroori said National Conference party supported Congress candidature Ghulam Nabi Azad for the election of Rajya Sabha, so we have decided to support National Conference candidates in the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

Azad, who was a joint candidate of NC-Congress and had support of three independent legislators from the Valley, was re-elected in the Rajya Sabha.
