Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Poll Campaign Committee, Jyotiraditya Scindia today expressed confidence that his party would win this year's assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a crowded press conference at the party's state office, he said, "I have no doubt in my mind that the present BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has failed on all fronts".

Scindia said that there was no substance in talk about factionalism in the state Congress and claimed that the party was totally united in its determination to uproot the ruling BJP from the state.

When asked about his appointment as chairman a short while before the elections, he said that this was "incorrect", since all Congress leaders had been working together for the last six months.

The Union minister said that he was not worried if the BJP chose to field Jai Bhan Singh Pawaiyya, a former MP from the Guna parliamentary constituency which he represents in Parliament.

In a separate query, Scindia said that it was not important who became the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh after the Congress wins the assembly elections.

"The important thing is to defeat the BJP and have a Congress government in its place," he said.

Scindia arrived here this evening to a warm welcome to chair the first meeting of the poll campaign committee later in the night.

He said that the committee meeting would go on until a blueprint was finalised about what the party had to do to win the elections with the support of all its leaders.
