A couple of Congress workers were detained today while they attempted to torch a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus near the Dhebar road area of the city, the police said.
The incident took place this evening when a GSRTC bus was on its way to the state transport bus depot when Congress workers led by city unit president Jaswant Bhatti stopped the bus and poured inflammable liquid into it, the police said.
A police patrol which immediately rushed the spot detained the two Congress workers, foiling their attempt to set the bus ablaze, the police said, adding that Bhatti and others managed flee and a search is on to nab them.

The opposition Congress has given a call for a shut down (bandh) tomorrow, seeking Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's resignation after suspended and jailed IPS officer D G Vanzara's resignation letter indicted Modi in fake encounter cases.
"The Modi government spread terror among the people of the state which has been proved by Vanzara's letter" Congress MLA from Rajkot Indranil Rajyaguru said, urging people of the city to join the shut down.
However, BJP city unit president Bhikhabhai Vasoya said "The Congress has become disappointed and distressed after being out of the power for long and therefore it is staging a drama by call for a shut down".
Meanwhile, the police department has taken adequate measures to maintain law and order by deploying over 1,200 policemen in sensitive areas of the city.
"We are keeping close vigil on the law and order situation in the city. Stern action would be taken against those who try to disturb city's peace" police commissioner H P Singh said.
