South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) should consider "in a positive light" the Delhi Police proposal to build a multi-level parking in the Green Park area of South Delhi to easea traffic congestion, the Delhi High Court has said.
The court observed that the civic body, in coordination with other statutory authorities, should make an endevour to implement the proposal suggesting that an underground or multi level parking should be constructed in the market there to accomodate heavy flow of vehicles.
In its report filed before the court, the police had said that approximately 1,500 vehicles visited the market daily and the number escalates to 2,500 on weekends and a multi-level parking was needed there for a long-term solution.

"Respondent number one (SDMC) in coordination with other statutory bodies may consider this proposal in a positive light and endeavour to implement it. The undertaking of respondent number one on this count is taken on record," Justice Indermeet Kaur said.
The court's direction came on a plea filed by Green Park Association in which it was claimed that a part of the street in the market was converted into a parking area which was not only illegal but created a huge traffic mess and inconvenience to the residents of the locality.
SDMC told the high court that as per the approved layout plan, the area was marked as a lawn but shop owners in the market had started using it to park their own vehicles. Since no other parking site was there, it was converted into an authorised parking zone, it contended.
