Constable allegedly commits suicide with service rifle

A constable allegedly committed suicide today by shooting himself with a service rifle on duty at the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)'s house in the court area of Jehanabad district, a police officer said.

The constable Shivnath Pandit, posted on duty at the SDPO Jairam Sharma's house shot himself in his neck with service rifle and died on the spot, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Kumar said, adding, that prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.

Pandit had spoken to his family members in Lakhawar village in East Champaran district earlier in the day and appeared to be normal during conversation with the SDPO who enquired from whether he had applied for leave to which he said that he did not require it, the SP said.
 

The body has been sent for post-mortem, he said, adding that a probe was on to find out exact cause behind the constable's death.
