Police said the constable, Kamrul Haque, went to Srigouri Hospital in Badarpur town yesterday and asked for a medical certificate from a doctor Pradyut Jyoti Saikia.
When Saikia asked Haque to come again a day later to collect the certificate, the constable did not relent and allegedly assaulted the doctor.
Saikia filed an FIR at the Badarpur police station. The police today arrested Haque.
