Constable arrested for negligence during duty

A constable has been suspended and sent to jail for negligence during duty hours due to which an inmate fled away by duping him from the district court compound, police said today.

Anil Kumar was suspended for talking over the phone during his shift due to which murder accused Sonu, brought to the trial court escaped yesterday, Salman Taj Patil, SP (City) said.

The incident happened when Sonu, a resident of Baraut town of Baghpat district, was shifted from the court room to the main lockup in the court compound to meet his family.

Kumar started talking over his phone during the transit period and taking advantage of this, Sonu escaped hoodwinking the constable, Patil said, adding, Kumar was arrested yesterday.
 

An FIR was registered at Kavinagar police station against Kumar who was also suspended. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against him, the SP said.

A search operation was launched in the court premises to nab the absconding inmate and raids are being conducted at probable hideouts in Loni, Baghpat and Delhi to nab Sonu.

Kumar was produced before the court from where he has been sent to jail today under sections 222, 223 and 224 IPC.
