Two persons, including a Delhi police constable were arrested when they were allegedly trying to loot a trader in Nabi Karim area of central Delhi, while their third accomplice managed to escape.

The accused constable Lokesh was posted at Nand Nagri police station and has been held in connection with a loot case, a senior police officer said today.

Trader DP Gupta and his brother Ashok were returning back to their home in Paharganj from Yamuna Vihar, when their car was intercepted by three motorcycle-borne men, near their house yesterday night, police said.

The armed men tried to loot the traders who fought back. Meanwhile, locals gathered at the spot and foiled the loot bid, the officer said.

During the scuffle, the guns held by the accused fell from their hands and they were overpowered by the crowd gathered on the spot. While Lokesh and his brother Mohit were caught, their accomplice managed to flee, he said.

A PCR call was made by some after which cops arrived and detained duo and seized motorcycle used in the crime, from which a police cap and some official papers were recovered.

Further investigation in the matter is on while efforts are being made to arrest the third accused, he added.
