Constable caught receiving Rs 5,000 bribe

The Anti-Corruption branch of Vigilance department has arrested a head constable attached to the crime branch for accepting a bribe to settle accident case in Ponda town here.

Sanjiv Patil, Head Constable attched to Curchorem police station was caught red handed yesterday while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Mukesh Gaonkar, whose cousin had met with an accident.

The complainant had telephonically recorded conversation between him and the head constable, who was frequently calling and demanding money, police spokesman said.

The accused was arrested while accepting bribe at Cacora health centre, a mini hospital on the outskirts of Curchorem town.
 

He has been booked under section seven of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
