Constable, former homeguard booked for extortion in UP

A constable and a former home guard were arrested for posing as Traffic police personnel and extorting money from vehicle operators here, police said today.

Police Constable Shishpal Police and dismissed home guard Naresh Kumar were arrested yesterday for extracting money from vehicle operators by posing as Traffic police, DSP (Traffic), Yogender Singh said.

A bike and an illegal pistol were also recovered from their possession, he said.

Kumar was dismissed from service because of the same offence earlier, he added.

Police had received a complaint about harassment of vehicle operators, following which the duo was caught extorting money during a checking, Singh said, they have been arrested and a case has been registered.
