A police constable attached to Manmad police station, was today arrested here for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said today.

The constable, identified as Ananda Ramdas Shimpi, was caught red handed near a tea stall opposite Nashik Road railway station, an ACB release said.

The complainant, a resident of Manmad, had a dispute with a man, living near his residence and they had filed police complaints against each other in the past. Meanwhile, the daughter of the latter had gone missing.

Shimpi, who succeeded in tracing her, threatened the complainant that if does not pay Rs 10,000, a case of kidnapping and rape would be registered against his son, the ACB said.

After the complainant approached the ACB, his officers laid a trap and arrested Shimpi while accepting bribe today, the release added.
