Constable in east Delhi attempts to foil theft bid, shot at

A Delhi Police constable on patrol duty in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar Phase-I area was allegedly shot at today by an unidentified person when the former tried to save a woman from two miscreants who attempted to snatch her jewellery.

The victim, Sandeep Punia was hit by a bullet in his left arm by the pillion rider of the motorcycle and is now out of danger. He is recuperating at Jeevan Anmol Hospital, they said.

The incident occurred this afternoon at the DDA Market, Acharya Niketan, in Pandav Nagar police station area when Punia tried to intercept a theft bid by the duo, riding a motorcycle in the market, after hearing a distress cry from a woman there, police said.
 

He saw the two two men trying to snatch a jewellery from her, after which he intercepted and attempted to save her but the man riding the pillion threatened to shoot him and then fired at him in the left arm, police said.

While the mob managed to nab the accused (pillion rider), the accomplice (vehicle rider) escaped from there, they said.
