Constable injured in accidental firing while cleaning rifle

A Jharkhand police constable was injured when his service rifle accidentally went off while he was cleaning, a senior officer said today.

Constable Bhupendra Singh was cleaning his service rifle in the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) headquarters in Palamau district last night when it went off accidentally, injuring him in the thigh, police superintendent of Indrajeet Mahatha said.

Singh was rushed to the district hospital in Medininagar immediately and the doctors there referred him to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, he said.

He said a case has been registered and probe is on to find out whether it was a case of negligence, he added.
