A police constable was injured when he tried to free a person whom three miscreants were trying to kidnap in Channi Himmat area here, an official said today.

"During the intervening night of May 17-18, three motorcycle-borne miscreants forced Darshan Lal, who was returning home from Raya Morh where he operates a dhaba, to sit with them on their motorcycle near Nissan showroom," he said.

After watching a motorcycle with four persons, the police team at stadium square checkpost tried to stop them but they fled away. The checkpost team immediately alerted the police bike patrol party which started chasing the bike, he added.

The police party finally intercepted the bike and rescued Lal from the clutches of the unidentified kidnappers, he said, adding, however, the kidnappers attacked the police party with sticks they were carrying. As a result, constable Ali Hussain sustained major fractures on his left arm, he said.

The miscreants managed to escape, he said, adding a search operation has been launched to nab them.
