Cyberabad Police has formed three special teams to nab the leader of a fake currency gang and its other members wanted in connection with the killing of a police constable and injuring a sub-inspector in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district on Friday, police said today.

"Three special parties are continuing their hunt to catch Yellam Goud and other members of fake currency racketeers," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Petbasheerabad Division) M Srinivasa Rao told PTI.

Constable Eshwar Rao was killed and SI Venkat Reddy sustained serious stab injuries after members of the gang allegedly attacked them with swords and knives around midnight on Friday even as one of the gang members, Mustafa died when police fired in retaliation.

The incident occurred when a decoy party reached Majidpur crossroads area in Shameerpet mandal of Ranga Reddy and stopped a vehicle but the racketeers suddenly attacked the cops and fled.

Police had received a tip-off about the operations of the gang.

Two of the alleged gang members, identified only as Raghu and Naresh, who had been arrested were sent in judicial remand today, Rao said.

"Police teams have been dispatched to Medak, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts of Telangana to apprehend Yellam Goud, who is from Siddipet town in Medak," the ACP said adding that the condition of the injured SI, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, was serious but he is out of danger.

Meanwhile, the last rites of Eshwar Rao, who hails from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, were conducted today with police honours.

The body of Mustafa was also handed over to his parents, who are from Siddipet, the ACP added.
