A 26-year-old police constable was dismissed today on charges of supplying banned articles to the inmates of the central prison in nearby Salem.
Police said jail authorities carried out an enquiry after allegations that the constable, Ganesan, had allegedly been supplying mobile phones, cigarettes and beedis to Salem central prison inmates.
A departmental enquiry concluded that Ganesan, a Grade 2 constable, was involved in smuggling of banned items into the jail and supplying them to the inmates, they said.
He was dismissed following an order from the Superintendent of Police, they added.
