Constable sent to 10 years RI in rape case

A local court has sentenced a police constable to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in a seven-year-old rape case here.

Additional District Judge (II) Nitin Sharma yesterday sentenced constable Rajendra Singh to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him after finding him guilty of raping a woman in 2007.

Counsel H S Puniya said the woman from Tehri had lodged a complaint in 2007 alleging that constable Singh deployed in the police lines here had raped her after promising to marry her and forced her to undergo abortion twice during the period.

Singh was under suspension ever since being booked in the case.
