A head constable of Delhi Police died of burn injuries sustained by him when his clothes caught fire from a brazier he kept close to him, police said today.

"The head constable Hari Kishan(51) died after he was seriously burnt by the brazier. He was a native of Himachal Pradesh," said Puspendra Kumar, DCP (West).

Hari Kishan was posted at a facilitation centre in Paschim Vihar where the incident occured. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed during treatment, said another senior police officer.

"It appears that he did not notice that his clothes had caught fire and before he could manage to douse the flames he was seriously burnt," said the officer.

His body was sent for autopsy, he added.
