A police constable was suspended today after a murder accused escaped from the lock up in Buguda police station in Odisha's Ganjam district, the police said.
"We have suspended constable Shankar Sethi for dereliction of duty for which the murder accused escaped from the police lock up," said SP (Ganjam) Narsingh Bhol.
The constable was on duty when the incident took place last evening, Bhol said.

The accused, who was going to the urinal, ran away in the dark after thrashing the constable, said inspector-in charge of Buguda police station Ranjan Kumar Dey.
A search operation has been launched to trace the accused and all nearby police stations have been alerted, he added.
