Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the government will draft new service rules in the police department under which newly recruited constables will retire at least in the rank of sub-inspectors.
Announcing this during the piping ceremony of 5,624 police personnel who got promotions, he said the final touches were being given to these rules in consultation with the legal department.
He said under the new rules each newly recruited police constable would get promotions at the fix tenure of his service.

Sukhbir said in order to create more facilities for police force, the state government has decided to construct residential barracks at Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda and Patiala and the construction work would start soon.
"The housing facility will provide great ease for the police force put on duty in other districts," he said.
Sukhbir also announced to decrease VAT on items being purchased for the police canteens from 14.5 per cent to 5.6 per cent.
He said to equip the police force with the modern technology, Rs 100 crore have been released to the police department.
Besides, Rs 23 crore have also been released to the welfare fund of the police department, Sukhbir said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced Rs 2 crore for strengthening the infrastructure at PAP headquarters in Jalandhar.
He also announced that the government would provide special promotions to 25 police personnel every year for their unmatched services.
