Constitute one-Man commission to inquire into BTAD violence

Assam government today constituted one-man Commission of Inquiry to inquire into the causes and circumstances leading to incidents of violence that took place in Baksa and Kokrajhar districts in early May.

The Commission will be headed by retired Judge of the Gauhati High Court Justice Mutum B K Singh, an official release said.

Apart from ascertaining the causes leading to the violence during May 1 and 2, 2014, the Commission will assess the response on the part of the administration in containing the situation and in providing relief to those affected.

It will determine whether there was any political conspiracy and will identify the individuals or groups or organisations responsible for the violence.
 

The Inquiry Commission will give recommendations for ensuring long term peace and ethnic harmony in the BTAD areas amongst all communities.

The Commission of Inquiry will submit its report within next six months.
