Nepal's top political leaders today reaffirmed their commitment to promulgate the country's new Constitution before January 22 next year.

The negotiations are on to resolve contentious issues related to Constitution drafting, said Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, UCPN-Maoist chief Prachanda and CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar.

They assured that the new Constitution will be ready before January 22 next year.

The top leaders made the commitment in one voice while speaking at a tea-reception organised on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath here.

The time table related to statute writing has been rescheduled several times.

Meanwhile, the three party meeting scheduled for today at the Prime Minister's Office was postponed after the top leaders of the ruling CPN-UML did not turn up.

The meeting was aimed at sorting out differences among the major political parties on key issues related to Constitution drafting such as federal structure, forms of governance and electoral system.
