Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission re-designated

Puducherry government has re-designated State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as State Food Commission.

A notification by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs said that the State Food Commission has been constituted in accordance with the provisions of Section 18 of the National Food Security Act 2013.

The State Food Commission would monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Act and enquire either suo moto or on receipt of complaint into violations of entitlements provided under the Act.

It would also advise the government or their agencies, autonomous bodies and non governmental organisation engaged in delivery of relevant services for effective implementation of food and nutrition related schemes.
 

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission will perform the functions of the State Food Commission in addition to its normal duties with the existing President and other members, the notification said.

The Department through another notification said that as per the provisions of the National Food Security Act Puducherry government has declared that the eldest woman who is not less than18 years of age in a household would be head of the household for the purpose of ration cards. The Act aims at such declaration for 'empowerment of women'.

If a household does not have a woman or a woman of eighteen years of age or above the eldest male member of the household would be head of the household for the purpose of issue of ration card. The female member on attaining the age of 18 years would become the head of the household for the ration card in the place of the male member.
