Consumer Forum settles 17 year old case

After a wait of 17 years, a consumer who was allegedly duped by a private bus operator, finally got justice.

The Kendrapara District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed a private bus operator to pay a sum of Rs 2,000 as compensation to a person for deficiency of services.

The district forum acting on an order by the state consumer dispute redressal forum, directed bus-owner Bhagabat Das to pay the amount.

The bus owner had failed provide transport to the complainant Dinabandhu Khatua on June 22, 1997 when his son got married.

The complainant had paid Rs 200 as advance for hiring the bus and the bus owner had committed to carry the bridegroom party from Saranga village to Bankichanda village, but the service was not provided.
 

The bus owner has been directed to pay Rs 2,000 compensation to the complainant, Rs 500 towards the cost of the litigation and refund of Rs 200 advance sum with 18 per cent annual interest, said president district consumer dispute redressal forum, Bijoy Kumar Das.
