: A large number of transformers are being replaced in Pudukkottai district alone, since consumers are attempting to use maximum power from them, Tamil Nadu government informed the state Assembly today.

Replying a query during question hour,Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan said a large number of transformers were malfunctioning and had to be replaced as consumers in the district were attempting to get maximum electricity even without having three phase connections.

"I'm not accusing them, but I would like the elected representatives in the area to advice them not to indulge in such practices so that there is smooth transmission of power to everyone. Using some equipment to get three phase electricity would result in power cuts in the area," he added.

He was replying to Thirumayam legislator P K Vairamuthu, who wanted a new transformer in Tanjur village of Pudukkottai district.
