A bench of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw issued the notice also to Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which operates the BRT corridor between Moolchand-Ambedkar Nagar, and sought their replies within a week.
The bench issued notices on a contempt plea by NGO Nyay Bhoomi for non compliance of the court's May 30 and July 5 orders and slated the matter for next hearing on August 8.
The court had earlier asked the Delhi government to continue with the arrangements made by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) during the experimental trial run on BRT between May 12 and May 23 this year till its final order.
The NGO filed the contempt petition against Delhi Chief Secretary PK Tripathi, Transport Commissioner R Chandra Mohan, Vice President of BRT and Operations from DIMTS Rakesh Katyal for not complying with the court orders.
On May 30 and July 5, the court had directed the Transport Department to retain till its final order an arrangement that allowed plying of all vehicles in the lane reserved as the bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor.
The 5.8-km stretch of BRT corridor between Moolchand and Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi was introduced in 2008 and designed on the model of Bogota city in Colombia to make bus and bicycle travel safer and faster and encourage travel that did not involve cars. (More)
