The Allahabad High Court today initiated contempt proceedings against a Samajwadi Party leader and son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician Amarmani Tripathi following a complaint that he had issued threats inside the court premises to a petitioner who had been involved in a legal dispute with their family.
Justice Sunita Agarwal initiated the proceedings on the complaint of advocate Rakesh Gupta who alleged that Amanmani Tripathi had threatened his client Abdur Rehman with dire consequences after they came out of the courtroom in connection with a case relating to a disputed property in Maharajganj district.
The court fixed July 6 as the next date of hearing in the contempt matter and directed the Superintendent of Police of Maharajganj to ensure that Tripathi was physically present on that date.

The court also directed UP police to provide adequate security to Rehman in view of the submission of his counsel that he faced threat to his life.
Both Tripathi and Rehman were in the court in connection with a petition relating to the building of a defunct industrial unit Durga Oil Mill situated in Nautanwa town of Maharajganj which Amarmani Tripathi had got allotted in his name long back.
Rehman, who holds the power of attorney for the property, had challenged the allotment before the High Court and the same was set aside.
However, when the local administration failed to get the premises vacated as per court order, Rehman came back with a contempt petition.
Today, an Additional District Magistrate of Maharajgan appeared before the court and submitted an affidavit stating that the premises have been vacated as per the directions of the court.
Apparently miffed by the development, Tripathi picked up a quarrel with Rehman after coming out of the courtroom which led to the subsequent developments.
Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani are serving life imprisonment for the murder of Madhumita Shukla, a budding poetess, in 2003.
A history-sheeter associated with different parties during his political career, Amarmani was sacked in 2001 from the council of ministers by the then Chief Minister Rajnath Singh after his name cropped up in the abduction of a businessman's son.
