Contract labourer dies during unloading of pipes

A contract labourer was killed when iron pipes fell on him during unloading from a trailer at a PWD store at Kalyani in Nadia district today.

Tapan Singha (37) of Kalyani was busy with unloading operation when suddenly the three pipes got disentangled from a crane and his skull was smashed under the impact, a police officer said.

PHE Contract Satff Welfare committee President Amiya Sarkar, the association demanded Rs 10 lakh as compensation for the next of kin and also a government job to one of the family members as he was doing a PWD job.
